Frequently Asked Questions

General questions

What do you need to bring to the exam?

  1. Laptop or desktop: this is the computer where you'll take the exam. You can't use a tablet or smartphone.
  2. Google Chrome: this is the only browser that supports the extension that you'll need to use during the exam to record your screen and activity. Download Google Chrome and install it if you don't have it already. (before the exam you'll receive an email with a link to install this extension and to check the technical requirements of your computer)
  3. A photo ID: this is needed to verify your identity before the exam. The following IDs are valid:
    • National Identification Card (or State identity card)
    • Driver's license
    • Passport
    • Passport card
    • Military ID
    • Green card, alien registration, permanent resident card
    • University identity card
  4. A steady Internet connection: it's recommended to have at least 1,5 Mbps of upload speed, so we can record your activity during the exam.

How to prepare your setup and room for the exam

  • Your room is well lit: you must be visible during the entire exam. Avoid backlighting such as placing your computer webcam in front of a window.
  • You are alone: you should be the only person taking the exam, having someone else in the room is a serious violation.
  • Position your cam right: not too close or too far from you. We need to be able to see you and your surroundings well.
  • No headphones: if you use them to block the environment noise, you'll need to find a different solution or a quieter room.
  • No extra devices or papers: you can't use any electronic devices (except the laptop/desktop where you take the exam) and you can't read any books or papers either.
  • No talking: any noise that you make (even if you just talk or whisper to yourself) will be analysed for suspicious behaviour.
  • No extra resources: you can't use Google, ChatGPT or any other website or application during the exam. You can't check out Symfony source code either.

Anti-cheating measures

All Symfony Certification exams are taken online using your own computer. The following measures are taken to avoid cheating:

  • The Google Chrome extension that you must install before the exam checks that you don't open other programs or browser tabs during the exam.
  • The entire exam session is recorded in video, both your screen contents and your face (using your computer webcam).
  • If you pass the exam, the video is reviewed by a person to ensure that no cheating or suspicious activity occurred during the exam. After that, the video recording is destroyed. If you don't pass the exam, the video recording is destroyed immediately without reviewing it.

What kind of questions are on the exam?

The exam contains three types of questions:

  • True / False,
  • Single answer,
  • Multiple choice.

During the exam, you only need to select one or more of the given answers. You won't be asked to write any text or code.

Questions about the Symfony certification

Which minimal version of Symfony is covered by the exam?

If I fail, can I retake the Symfony exam?

Yes, candidates are allowed to retake the exam any number of times. However, you will be required to purchase a new exam voucher for each taking.

With the new Symfony certification exams, do I have to retake the exam to renew my previous version certifications?

No, you do not need to re-take the exam. Your previous standing holds. However, if you are already certified for versions like 4 or 5, you can always get re-certified for new versions like 6 or 7!
